HISTORY IN Taupō
Disc Golf has been played in Taupō for over 20 years. The course at Spa Park has held a spot on the New Zealand Disc Golf tour since its inception in the early 2000’s. It has held the National Championships 5 times throughout the sports 40-year history in New Zealand. Spa Park has attracted players from all over the country. Even more impressively, international players have travelled from Australia, USA, Canada, Germany, Sweden and the UK to play the course. It is truly one of New Zealand’s premier disc golf courses.
SPA PARK
The permanent installation of the course in April 2021 introduced the game to many locals for the first time. It has become a source of pride to club members, with regular well attended working bees keeping the course in top shape. Situated beside the mighty Waikato river, the Otumuheke stream provides thermally heated water so players have the opportunity for a soak on their 18 hole journey around the park (toilets, changing facilities and a café are also located by the hot pools).
2023 will see a change to the layout to primarily help with park safety, and also enhance the variety of challenges.
